Insight Genetics, a Nashville-based molecular diagnostics company, has received $1.7 million through two research contracts from the National Cancer Institute.

The contracts were given to continue the development of diagnostic tests that identify and characterize genetic mutations in lung cancer patients, according to a release.

The company received $1.5 million to further develop a proprietary test for a spectrum of genetic mutations and fusions associated with a variety of cancer types. The other $200,000 will go toward the research and development of several other diagnostic tests for lung cancer.

The contracts are the third and fourth awards the company has received from the National Cancer Institute since 2010.
